Boxed Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128k Toastrack and PSU

Description

ZX Spectrum 128k Toastrack – Very early Issue 6K version – Boxed with poly inserts in very good condition, with genuine PSU.

This is the original 128K version of Sir Clive’s ground-breaking machine “Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128K+, commonly known as the “Toastrack” – the last Spectrum by Sinclair before the Amstrad took over the company.

This is the most compatible of all Spectrum computers – running 128K and 48K games, with the versatility of a standard cassette port instead of a built-in cassette deck, and with 3-channel sound and 128K memory which will allow you to play even the most demanding Spectrum games.

This is a very early example of the Version 6K Toastrack (only 20,000 were made). Serial number: 007-016568

Work carried out:

• The computer has been fully stripped down and carefully cleaned inside and out giving it a fresh look and feel.
• The keys have all been tested and are all working.
• The Toastrack has been tested for full functionality using DiagRom – the Z-80 CPU /M1 line has also been tested (as well as the ULA and all memory) to ensure it’s fully working
• All electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high quality aluminium electrolytic capacitors, as these are usually the only parts which degrade over time.
• We have replaced capacitors C7 and C8 to reduce the vertical striping “jailbars” on the video output.
• The motherboard has been cleaned.
• The +5v voltage regulator has been replaced with a brand new 2-amp version to give stable voltage across the motherboard.
• The ULA has been heatsinked using good quality thermal adhesive tape.
• The Spectrum has been modified to give proper RGB switching signal for the SCART lead to give a truly stable picture. The AY sound and the beeper sound have been correctly balanced so that the beeper does not drown out the AY sound as it usually does on a 128K+.
• The 128K Spectrums have a bug in the GAL chip where it shows black horizontal line interference (ULA rain) when running certain games (such as Batman and many demos). We have replaced the GAL chip in a socket with a fixed version without the bugs.

It comes with a recapped genuine Toastrack PSU, polys and the outer cover.  Cover and the polys in good condition for their age (see pictures).

We’ve tested the machine with diagnostics ROMs for several hours.  We’ve also tested the machine with a combination of 48k and 128k games and demos for a couple of hours and it works flawlessly.

This is another nice 128k Toastrack ZX Spectrum that has been well cared for.  As you would expect with its age it has a few signs of wear and tear on the case (see pics) but just needed repairing and a little TLC to bring it back to its former glory.
